Atrium Gallery
RMIT Interior Decoration Semester 1, 2024
This brief asked us to conceptualise a sustainable public space that integrates with its surrounding environment. Emphasis was placed on the relationship between form and nature, sustainable material choices, and the experiential quality of the architecture.
I designed a conceptual art gallery located within Fitzroy Gardens, Melbourne. Inspired by natural root systems and organic structures, the gallery featured a curvilinear floorplan with a repeated structural motif that echoed natural forms. A living tree was positioned at the centre of the building to symbolise growth and reconnection with nature. The use of natural timber, expansive glazing, and soft transitions between interior and exterior were key to creating an immersive and contemplative environment.
